Chiropractic Shown to be Effective First Line of Defense

A report published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, covering claims data for a 7 year time period demonstrated the effectiveness of chiropractic as a first option for health care. 

Researchers compared clinical and cost utilization for an Independent Physician Association (IPA) who’s Primary Care Physicians were chiropractors with another IPA in the same geographical region and time span.  The chiropractic IPA had significantly lower hospital admissions, surgeries and pharmaceutical costs as compared to the conventional medicine IPA.  

Clinical and cost utilization based on 70274 member-months over a 7-year period demonstrated:

·       decreases of 60.2% in-hospital admissions,

·       59.0% hospital days,

·       62.0% outpatient surgeries and procedures, and

·       85% pharmaceutical costs

when compared with conventional medicine IPA performance for the same health maintenance organization product in the same geography and time frame.
