Chiropractic Therapy Assistant

The 101st Tennessee General Assembly enacted legislation effective June 2000 requiring that all chiropractic assistants performing therapy on patients be licensed and certified by the state.

It is important to be knowledgeable of your state’s requirements, if applicable, for chiropractic assistants to become certified or licensed.  For CTA Program information for those outside of Tennessee, click here.

The Tennessee Board of Chiropractic Examiners requires completion of:

  • an approved 50-hour instructional program,
  • passage of the CTA State Exam, and
  • accrual of 1,200 clinical internship hours to become a state-certified CTA.

CTA TRAINING PROGRAM
In an effort to benefit you and your doctor’s practice, this structured program has been created in a distance learning format designed to prepare you for all the requirements of a Chiropractic Therapy Assistant.  Included in this program are the CTA textbook, video modules and practical workbook which serves as your guide to complete your study.

CTA STATE EXAM
Every chiropractic assistant who seeks to perform therapy in Tennessee must meet educational criteria and pass the state examination prior to performing CTA duties.  Program applicants are eligible to apply for the CTA State Exam upon completion of educational components.

CTA CLINICAL INTERNSHIP
Upon passing the exam, the individual may begin a supervised clinical internship
and is exempt from certification requirements, as defined in Rule 0260-05, for one (1) year, unless an extension is granted by the Board.
