Teach Them Young!

Researchers wanted to know how much influence early education and exposure to healthy habits would have on children over time.  The Child and Adolescent Trial for Cardiovascular Health (CATCH) was the largest school-based health promotion research project in the United States. It studied over 3,700 students (3rd grade) from 56 elementary schools in four states.

For the study, the intervention group ate healthier lunches and took part in physical education classes that involved maintaining moderate to vigorous activity levels.  Additionally, they were given classroom lessons and activities to complement these changes.  Then after three years of no additional intervention, the students were evaluated again.

The students who had received the interventions reported having significantly higher daily vigorous activity than control students.  When students reached the 8th grade, they continued to show higher dietary knowledge and intentions when compared to the control group.

This shows the importance of teaching healthy habits to children.  Talk to your chiropractor about tips on making healthy habits for your family today!  Chiropractic care is safe and effective for all ages – even as young as a newborn, so it’s never too early for an initial consult.  Correcting any misalignments when they occur will help your child grow and develop into a healthy adult.
